8 SEO TOP RULES

Do not pay for your SEO to optimise your home page and then make changes to that page without first consulting your SEO.

Build a site map with links that point to all parts of your site. For example, Google can use your sitemap to analyze the structure of your website. If your site map page gets ranked it is sure to help all of your sites pages and give them a better chance of being ranked also.

Your site design needs to allow for SEO modifications mentioned, you should be prepared to change the overall site structure. You may have to choose between corporate look and actual site performance and trade off a little.

Page opening speed has to be reasonably quick, so if you want a commercial shop or products site to rank well? Be careful to set out some good site navigation arranging sections of products on second and third level pages.

Do not buy back links from a link farm or link directory and have them pointing to your home / index page. If you need to go down this route be careful and make sure they link to a second or third level page within your navigation structure to be sure you are not black listed by some popular search engines.

Manually submit your website ( URL) to Google and Yahoo. Automated URL submission programs are ok if used for less popular search engines and directories and pages you do not already have high rankings.

Site Popularity was the key to continued top search engine rankings 10 years ago and still is today. You need to show a sound balance of visitors from many directions who will stay and browse your web pages, possibly interact in some way, enjoy what they see and come back for more. If your site truly adds value to the browser and the internet it should be possible to promote it to the first page rankings of the most popular engines without fear of being dropped.

Popular search terms will be 2 words or may be 3 words long at the most. Spend some time checking your valued search terms. You may sell Taxi Insurance Online so you need your site to be ranked in the top 10 of Google for "Taxi Insurance" and "Taxi insurance Quote" But certainly not for the terms "Best Taxi insurance prices" or "Online Cab insurance in Bradford" or "insurance Bradford". Do not let a poor SEO tell you otherwise. Think about what you target visitor will type into the search box and that's what your search term needs to be.

What will a good Pay Per Click Advertising Campaign Manager do for you ?

  • Set up various advertising accounts with search engines like Google and Yahoo to fast track your website's promotion by administering a add campaign that is normally displayed along side the top websites shown for a given search term.

  • You will be given a choice of ad placement and what it will cost roughly per click to keep you in that position. It may be anywhere from 1st to 10th position that you choose be displayed on the first page of your search terms results depending on the cost, as the higher the position you want the higher your costs will be.

  • You will be given some choices as to some settings available like;

  • Choice of key search terms you choose to run your ads with.

  • Location, may be you want all the world to see you or may be you just want UK searches to find and click on your ads.

  • If you have a product for sale strictly for the UK market may be you do not want to pay for clicks to your ads from all over the world as this could be a waste of your advertising funds. It can be restricted to some reasonable degree and best to focus on your target audience.

  • The wording of your ads have a basic rule; Your ad must share the same content as the words found within the page you link to.

  • You can link your ads to almost any page within your website, not just your home page.

  • You can change your key words as you like as well as the price per click and overall budget you cap it to daily or monthly.

  • You can pause and / or add new ad terms as required as long as the account rules are followed.

  • If a ad term is rejected due to lack of website content you can add the content to your website and re-request that ad normally.

  • Remember to pause any advertising terms you choose to stop using, do not delete them if you think you will need them again some day as you may have trouble setting them up again in the future.

  • You will have a choice of reports and how they are delivered, may be directly to you or via your PPC manager would be best practice.

  • Take note of spellings, some UK and American spellings are different and can waste precious ad funds if you can not convert your visitors to sales of your products for example. You may want to utilise both ways of spelling.

PAYMENT: You may be asked to pay up front to set up a credit account for the funds needed and this is understandably to discuss with your PPC manager. Your account will require a credit or debit card registering in most cases to facilitate payment of your ad clicks on a monthly basis or a pre-payment agreement

Your account will be invoiced and payment taken from the registered card at the end of a 30 day cycle after calculating the amount of clicks and the cost of that advertising. When and if you want to close your account remember that you will receive one final payment request for any over-run on the account from when your last invoice was raised and paid.

Please check for your self but if you decide to set up A Google or Yahoo PPC account and enter your card details, no other user to that account should have access to your complete card details as the information is not shown in its entirety.

A PPC agency may make alterative arrangements for payments depending on their company policy.
